What makes you enjoy working with seniors? Older adults have a wealth of life experiences and therefore an interesting and often colorful personal narrative. Many times they are able to share wisdom gleaned from their long life.
I also enjoy being able to relate to what they are going through because I am a senior. Why do you think online therapy is effective for seniors? It is effective because of many of the same reasons it is effective generally: it is accessible, convenient, and usually appropriate when the severity of symptoms is moderate or low.
It also addresses major issues for some seniors like transportation or having someone assist them with wheel chairs, walkers, etc. How do you approach therapy sessions? I have an open mind with clients because everyone is unique.
There are many therapeutic approaches that work for many people but sometimes, when listening patiently, it becomes apparent that a client needs an adjustment to the approach. What is your advice to someone who is starting therapy for the first time? I suggest to start with an open mind and a willingness to try new ways of thinking and of doing things.
Also, give it several sessions before deciding whether it helps or not.
