About Marsha

Marsha Caraway, MSW is a LMHC who graduated from University of North Texas in 1983. As a seasoned clinician, Marsha has 42 years of experience in the field and is licensed in New York and Texas.

What makes you enjoy working with seniors? I enjoy working with older people because (1) I am one, (2) I appreciate hearing the life stories and how they have woven their experiences into meaning in their lives and (3) how they continue to want to discover their best selves in this life stage. Why do you think online therapy is effective for seniors?

I think online therapy is convenient and comfortable for older adults in that they can stay in the comfort of their own homes. How do you approach therapy sessions? The first step for me is to get to know who the client is.

I ask them to tell me who they are. I give them the opportunity to ask me questions about myself if they feel the need/want to. After that and the biosocial assessment I ask them what it is that they want from therapy and what they want from life in general.

What is your advice to someone who is starting therapy for the first time? Go at your own pace, trust yourself and understand that it is a process not an event. Self-discovery is a lifelong process.
